An application has been submitted to the Economics & Social Research Council for a seminar series in 2007/8. The outcome will be known in late June 2007. The bid comprises four seminars to be held across the UK over a 18 month period from early 2008 to summer 2009.
In the first we will document and explore experiences of violence and violations from across the world, including Australia, Canada, India, South Africa and the International Labour Organisation. The second seminar concentrates on the UK experience and how social science work can inform research on crime, domestic violence and the workplace. In the third seminar we consider European Union work and the implications of EU directives and initiatives. The final seminar allows for the review of previous work and ideas and will end with a workshop on how the issues and research might be communicated to a range of audiences.
Each seminar will have about 30 participants, including speakers. Those presenting reflect the range of work on violence, violations and organisations and at differing stages of their careers. A special effort will be made to ensure the insights and experiences of those working on this topic in non academic organisations is represented.
